Wedding Anniversary Gifts List

Wedding anniversaries are one of the most widely recognised celebrations in life – symbolizing the shared love of a couple, and the longevity of their partnership. Our anniversary gifts list at the bottom of this page can help you to find the right gift for the occasion.

The earliest recorded wedding anniversary celebrations are from the time of the Roman Empire, and later also in mediaeval Germany.  Both celebrations saw the wife presented with a silver wreath by her husband on their 25th wedding anniversary, and a gold wreath on their 50th anniversary.

It seems likely that the tradition was picked up from even earlier pagan celebrations, and adopted by the Romans following their expansion into northern Europe, with Germany adopting the silver and gold wreaths from the Romans.

Over time, more anniversaries were added to the list of celebrations, with the earlier years of marriage being celebrated with more practical gifts, and later anniversaries becoming associated with more decorative gifts.

In 1937, the American National Retail Jeweler Association introduced more anniversaries to the list, for each year up to the 25th anniversary, although this has not really spread outside of the US

Fun fact – the traditional Diamond anniversary originally celebrated the 75th year, but this changed to the 60th year following Queen Victoria’s “Diamond Jubilee” celebrating 60 years on the throne.

Below is our list of wedding anniversaries, their traditional gifts, and the flowers and gemstones associated with each year.  You can browse through our Anniversary section, or clicking a link in our anniversary gifts list below will run an automatic search of all our ranges, based on the keyword to give you more ideas
